Ingredients and Preparation

To create one of Stephie's favorite breakfasts, the scrambled egg wrap, you'll need a selection of fresh and high-quality ingredients.

The primary ingredients include:

  • 2-4 large pieces of romaine lettuce

  • 1 ripe tomato

  • half of an avocado

  • 2-4 slices of pepperoncinis

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/4 cup milk

  • salt to taste

  • 1 TBSP butter

* Each ingredient plays a crucial role in the overall flavor and texture of the wrap, ensuring a delightful and nutritious meal.

  1. Start by preparing the scrambled eggs.

    • Crack the eggs into a medium bowl and whisk them thoroughly

    • add about 1/4 cup of milk

    • add a pinch of salt or salt to taste and whisk until creamy and fluffy (The milk not only adds a creamy texture but also helps to achieve a fluffier consistency)

    • Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat

    • add about 1 TBSP of butter, allowing it to melt, and coat the pan evenly

    • Pour the egg mixture into the skillet and let it cook undisturbed for about 1 minute

    • Using a spatula, gently push the eggs from the edges towards the center, allowing the uncooked eggs to flow to the edges. Continue this process until the eggs are just set but still slightly soft.

    • Remove the skillet from heat to prevent overcooking

  2. While the eggs cook, prepare the other ingredients

    • Wash and dry the romaine lettuce leaves thoroughly, then pat dry with paper towels

    • Use a sharp knife, and a ribbed cutting board, and cut the tomato into bite-sized chunks

    • Slice half of the avocado into thin strips using a sharp knife and spoon onto the ribbed cutting board with lettuce and tomatoes

    • use your sharp knife and slice the pepperoncini in thin rounds (they add a tangy kick to the wraps)

Assembling your scrambled egg wraps

  1. Lay out the romaine lettuce leaves (1 or 2 per wrap)

  2. Evenly distribute chunks of tomatoes over the whole lettuce leaf

  3. Lay the avocado slices over the tomatoes (2-3 slices per wrap)

  4. Add 2-3 pepperoncini rounds next

  5. Top and distribute the scrambled eggs evenly across each leaf

  6. Carefully fold the lettuce leaves over the filling to create a wrap, securing the ingredients inside

*To enhance the flavor, you may add a sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper or a dash of hot sauce.

For the perfect texture and flavor balance, ensure that the scrambled eggs are creamy yet firm enough to hold their shape within the wrap. The combination of fresh lettuce, juicy tomatoes, creamy avocado, and tangy pepperoncini creates a harmonious blend of flavors, making each bite a delightful experience.

Nutritional Benefits and Variations

The scrambled egg wrap, a staple in Stephie's breakfast repertoire, offers a myriad of nutritional benefits.

At its core, scrambled eggs are a powerhouse of protein, essential for muscle repair and growth. Each egg contains approximately six grams of high-quality protein and is rich in vital nutrients such as vitamin B12, riboflavin, and selenium.

These nutrients are crucial for maintaining energy levels, brain function, and supporting the immune system.

Incorporating fresh vegetables like spinach, bell peppers, and tomatoes not only enhances the flavor but significantly boosts the nutritional profile.

  • Spinach is an excellent source of iron and vitamin K, vital for blood health and bone strength

  • Bell peppers provide a generous dose of vitamin C, which is essential for immune function and skin health

  • Tomatoes, high in antioxidants like lycopene, contribute to heart health and reduce inflammation

Healthy fats, often in the form of avocado or olive oil, complement the protein and vegetables in the wrap. Avocado is rich in monounsaturated fats, which are heart-healthy and beneficial for maintaining healthy cholesterol levels.

Moreover, avocados provide fiber, potassium, and folate, contributing to overall well-being.

Olive oil, another healthy fat option, is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and its role in reducing the risk of chronic diseases.

To cater to various dietary preferences and tastes, this versatile recipe can be easily modified.

  • For those looking to increase their vegetable intake, provide additional nutrients and variety, try adding:

    • mushrooms

    • zucchini

    • kale

    • or a combination

Alternative wraps can accommodate different dietary needs, making the meal more accessible, such as:

  • whole wheat

  • gluten-free

  • even corn tortilla wraps

Experimenting with different seasonings can enhance the flavor profile and introduce exciting new tastes, such as:

  • turmeric

  • cumin

  • fresh herbs

Ultimately, the scrambled egg wrap is not only a delicious and satisfying breakfast option but also a nutritionally balanced meal that can be tailored to suit individual preferences and dietary requirements.

My family sure loved these breakfast wraps. It gets very hot at my house. This is the perfect combination of ingredients (minus the pepperonchini's) that my kids love and doesn't overload their tummies in the heat.
